What's a Trojan virus?

Trojans are a sophisticated form of computer virus. They can be remotely installed on your computer without your knowledge or permission.

They typically spread through spam and/or phishing emails that ask you to click a link to a bogus website or open an attachment.

Once infected, a fraudster can manipulate what's displayed on your computer, ultimately tricking you into disclosing confidential information such as PINs and passwords.

Symptoms of Trojan infection include the sudden appearance of unusual screens (e.g. insisting that you must enter Smartcard security codes to unlock your account or change your PIN and password) and slow running of your computer.
