Q:

Updating users' contact numbers for home working and other security advice

A:

Due to the coronavirus outbreak more Bankline users are working from home. It's now even more important that we have up to date contact details for users, so that we can contact them if we need to.

Where users are working from home, please make sure their mobile number is up to date in the 'User details' section on Bankline.

Security advice when working from home

Fraudsters are exploiting the coronavirus outbreak and the fact that more people are working from home. Here are four common security threats to watch out for:

  1. Bogus boss scams - these scams are increasing as it can be harder to check whether an email is genuine, when you're working from home. Always contact the colleague who apparently sent the payment request on a trusted channel to ensure it's genuine.
  2. Goods not received scams - these are on the increase, particularly for hard to find items such as personal protective equipment. Undertake proper due diligence on suppliers who claim to have Covid 19 related items in stock. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
  3. Invoice redirection scams - look out for bogus requests that ask you to change supplier settlement details, eg “due to the pandemic, we're unable to access our regular bank account, so please pay future invoices to this new account instead”.
  4. Vishing - remember never to disclose your Bankline credentials over the phone in any circumstances.

Stay alert to security threats and please share this advice with your colleagues.
